Distance Dipster

Not going to be in the Calgary area over New Years? No problem! Do the Distance Dip. The Distance Dip is a great Icebreaker tradition. You design your own whacky event. Our motto:

“If you’re Cold, we’re Cool”!

Here are some ideas:

  • Pour a bucket of ‘cold’ water over your head (we invented the ice bucket challenge!).
  • Skate in your bathing suit.
  • Roll in the snow after an après ski hot tub.
  • Go out your back yard with the kids and have a snowball fight in bathing suits:
  • Have somewhere else to dip? Go for it!

You can do whatever you like, whenever you like (as long as it is completed by New Years Day). Just be sure to document it with a video or photographs. Send them to us and we’ll post them on our website.

Check out this link for a truly whacky video of a family that did the Distance Dip in England last year. What a hoot! (Only in Britain, you say? Pity!)

Your checklist for the day:

  1. Dress up in something eye catching. Be colourful, be creative.
  2. Do something COOL! You can complete your Distance Dip any time before January 3.
  3. Document your Distance Dip and send it to us any time before January 3 via Twitter (@calgaryicebreak), or email info@calgaryicebreaker.com

How to Register and Fundraise:

  1. You do NOT have to register if you just want to do the Distance Dip and share it on social media. We do recommend you register IF you want to help fundraise.
  2. If you choose to register, click “Register” and provide a username, email address and display name (which will be used for your personal profile page). We’ll immediately send you an email with lots of good information:
    • A password and link to access your personal profile page
    • Fundraising information including how to access and edit your personal profile page, a pledge form and a sample fundraising email.
    • Their is no cost to register for the Distance Dip.
    • All funds raised this year will help support the SA Foundation’s three recovery homes for Moms and Children in Vancouver, Nepal and Greece. (Since it’s inception, SAF has consistently operated under 12% of net revenue in administration and fundraising costs combined).
    • Upload a picture of yourself
    • Set a fundraising goal
    • Provide a brief message so people know who you are and why you are doing the Distance Dip!
    • Change your password.
    • Join a team:

Click “join team”. You are now a member of that existing team and your profile name and picture will show on the team page.
      5. If you want to set up a new team, fill out the information under “Create a team”. Click “Create team”. Once the team is created you will be able to upload a Team Photo.

You must create a profile to be listed under the “Donate” page. This will make it easy for your donors to find you. Sign in and where it says “Howdy” in the top right corner, click Edit My Profile. Here you will be able to:
  3. You are good to go! Spread the word by sharing your personal profile page using the Facebook, Twitter and Google+ links on your page. You’ll also find the direct link to your page, which you can copy into emails. As mentioned above, we’ve come up with a sample fundraising email, but you may well want to create one on your own that reflects your own dipster personality! Challenge videos get a lot of mileage. Make a short 1 minute video and challenge your friends and family to either dip with you or donate.
  4. If you have any queries regarding registration, please contact us at register@calgaryicebreaker.com.
